We Need Your E-Mail Address

Band Booster Newsletters and other important announcements, including up-to-the-minute information, are sent through e-mail.  The first newsletter is being sent through snail mail, as this is the start of a new year for Showband.  Sending newsletters through e-mail is environmentally friendly and saves on postage.  If Marcy Picardi, Secretary, does not have a current e-mail address for you, please contact her as soon as possible so she can add your e-mail address.  Also, please adjust your e-mail accounts to accept e-mail from the address below, so it is not registered as spam.  Submit your e-mail address to:

Transportation Policy

“It is my (parent/student) responsibility to arrange transportation to/from the high school for all practices and performances. I further understand that if I am not picked up within 20 minutes after returning to the Music building, I will not perform at the next event.”

Marching Unit Contract, Form D—signed by both parent and student, as part of Band Camp Packet

Absentee and Suspension Policy

“Students must maintain a 2.5 grade point average throughout the school year. If the 2.5 is not maintained, students will be ineligible to perform in any and all March Unit events. All Marching Unit members must adhere to the Chartiers Valley Code of Conduct. If a member has violated the Code of Conduct or has been suspended internally or externally, that student will be subject to probation or dismissal from the Marching Unit. Students are not permitted to practice or perform when suspended from school. The Unit’s rules are clear and the Code of Conduct applies to all students. Make the right choices, because you will have to deal with the consequences. There will be no second chances. All Unit members must be in school for at least a ½ day on the day of a practice or performance. Chronic absenteeism and tardiness during marching season will subject the member to probation or suspension from the Unit.”

CHAPERONE RULES AND GUIDELINES

Chaperones are to help, guide and protect the students. We are also to assist staff members whenever needed.

Chaps will attend all activities with the students. Make sure you are on time.

NO VISITORS are permitted in the stands. If a parent needs to convey a message to their child, they must first pass the message through the staff, and they will relay it to the chaperone to inform the student, or they will relay the message to the student. Please do not assume that it is okay to allow parents/visitors into the stands during any events.

ALUMNI BAND and BAND FESTIVAL

Thank you to those who have expressed an interest in participating in the Alumni Band.  However, for a number of reasons, the Alumni Band will not be performing this year.

If you would be interested in participating in the future, please send me your name and contact information and I will forward to the person in charge.

Also, please check out their Facebook page, Chartiers Valley Show Band Alumni.

Thanks again for your interest!  Hope to see you on the field next year!

Last call for festival book ads and senior biographies!!

You can either e-mail me the information at knelson400@comcast.net, or snail mail at 1375 Main St, Bridgeville, PA  15017.  We will also be doing a feature called “Who’s That Baby?” again…if you would like to send a baby picture in to be included, I’ll be sure you get back your original photo.

I will also be at school on the first day of band camp (Monday, Aug 1) from 7 – 8 AM if anyone would like to drop off the forms to me then– I’ll be at one of the round picnic tables near the band room entrance.  Any questions, please call me at 412-221-4037.  Thanks!

Kathy Nelson

Band Festival!

The Band Festival is scheduled for Saturday, September 17th…. and we are looking for volunteers.

This is the biggest fundraiser we have for the general fund.  It’s a time for the kids to share their talents with other school bands.  For the new band families, it is a lot of fun and if you enjoy watching school bands, you’ll surely enjoy this show.

Most of the volunteer work is done the day of the festival, but there are lots of little jobs where we need folks to help out.  Below is a listing of the “jobs” where we need volunteers.

Concession/Bake Sale Stand
Audiograms / Candy Grams
Hospitality (you act as a host to the guest band)
Set Up
Clean Up
50/50 Raffle
Parking

Please email either Lorraine Formosa at flangeandlu@comcast.net or Laura Novelli at roblaura4@yahoo.com to let us know what job you may be interested in doing.  If you have any questions about what the job entails, please either email or ask at the August meeting.

Remember “many hands make light work”……   Thank you everyone,

Laura and Lorraine

Any Volunteers?

All volunteers working with children must have both criminal clearances and child abuse clearances. There is a link on the internet that volunteers can use to get the paperwork, so the clearances can be filed. The PA State Police website is: epatch.state.pa.us/home.jsp—when you get to the website, go to the link e-PATCH website. Once you receive your clearances, please return the forms to Mrs. Kelly or Mr. Wilson. Email annettekletzli@comcast.net to provide your name only. Your name will be added to a clearance list, so a record will be maintained for future renewal dates, and we will have a list of cleared chaperones for future trips and activities.
